The Global Alert app is cleaning our waterways
Global alert app, designed to clean up trash hotspots, is highlighted in Times square, New York
Big news on an Exicon’s "App Builder alumni”, Ocean Recovery Alliances “Global Alert” app - It’s big, it’s live, it’s in Times Square!
Our very own hero, Doug Woodring, Founder of ORA is having his mobile app - Global Alert - showcased on Morgan Stanley’s massive screens right in Times Square, New York. This is a huge testament to the incredible passion that Doug has for actually doing something when it comes to cleaning up the worlds waterways.
His "Global Alert" app lets people to "See, Share and Solve" trash hotspots in waterways or coastlines in any country by taking a photo and uploading it. Local communities use the photos and the associated location data to make a significant impact on the plastic pollution problem in the world’s waters.
Estimates based on The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) calculate the size of the problem - 5 bags of trash for every foot of coastline. As plastic floats its a global problem, not a local one but local efforts have to be encouraged to make a practical difference.
We’ve been working with Doug since he first conceived of the app and are delighted to be even a small part of making a difference, providing support and finding him the developer to build an app.
We’re hugely impressed by what Doug has achieved so far and look forward to supporting him as he continues to drive for cleaner water.
